New Facebook Look: love it, hate it or don’t care?

facebookLast week, Facebook launched yet another re-design of their user profile pages.  Modifications seem to be happening a lot, as they strive to keep up with other social media sites such as Twitter.

From a user’s perspective, it all looks pretty much familiar.   The user home page looks much cleaner and neater – and that is a definite improvement.  A few things have been changed and moved around.  At first, I was not too sure of exactly how much had changed, so I visited the Facebook guide to the home page tour.  I must admit, that I felt a bit like a newbie doing this.  The guide does give a really simple and easy “lay of the land”.

I like that things are now grouped together and in unobtrusive places.  For example, friend requests, messages and notifications are neatly tucked up next to the logo with red alert boxes to let you know when there is anything new.  Thankfully,  News Feed and Live Feed has been streamlined and now just called News Feed, with toggle-like links called “Top News” and “Most Recent” so you can read current live feeds or news.  So much simpler.  The top-right hand side of the screen neatly contains everything you need to change personal settings.  I had to find the Logout button though, which is now hidden under the “Account” section.

All-in-all, a neater, simpler make-over for Facebook.  It get’s a ‘love it!’ from me.
